Introducing Velvl Greene
An independent investment banking firm founded by Eden Melloul.
The most interesting opportunities rarely arrive in familiar forms.
They exist between established markets, outside conventional mandates, and in circumstances where the prevailing approach fails to account for what is actually possible.
We founded Velvl Greene to pursue them.
Velvl Greene is an independent investment banking and capital advisory firm focused on private capital, strategic transactions, and special situations.
Our work begins with a simple premise: the structure of a transaction should follow its underlying economics, not the limitations of the institution evaluating it.
The Name
Dr. Velvl Greene was a scientist working at the frontier of human knowledge.
A microbiologist and researcher associated with NASA’s early space exploration efforts, Greene devoted much of his professional life to studying questions for which the answers were not yet known.
He was also a man of extraordinary conviction.
Raised in a largely secular Jewish environment, Greene’s intellectual journey eventually brought him to Jewish observance and a close relationship with the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson.
One of the defining episodes of that relationship concerned Greene’s work searching for life beyond Earth.
The Rebbe encouraged the pursuit.
The possibility of discovering something that challenged prevailing assumptions was not a reason to stop asking questions. It was a reason to keep looking.
For Greene, scientific rigor and religious conviction were not mutually exclusive. Both demanded intellectual honesty. Both required humility in the face of what remained unknown.
His life offers a rare example of two qualities that are too often mistaken for opposites: an open mind and an unwavering set of principles.
We named the firm in his honor.
Why We Exist
Capital markets are extraordinarily sophisticated.
They are also highly structured.
Institutions operate within defined mandates. Investment committees evaluate opportunities against established criteria. Financing products are designed around standardized assumptions.
These systems are necessary. They create discipline, scale, and consistency.
But they also create boundaries.
A fundamentally sound business may not fit a lender’s credit model. A compelling acquisition may require a structure that falls outside a traditional financing mandate. An otherwise viable transaction may have a timeline that conventional capital cannot accommodate.
In each case, the absence of an obvious solution is not necessarily evidence that one does not exist.
It may simply mean the question has been framed too narrowly.
Velvl Greene was established to approach these situations differently.
We work across private capital, mergers and acquisitions, structured financing, and special situations, beginning with the commercial realities of each opportunity rather than a predetermined financing product.
We believe independent judgment matters most when the answer is not immediately apparent.
Conviction Requires Work
There is a difference between challenging conventional thinking and simply rejecting it.
The former requires a deeper understanding of why the convention exists in the first place.
We believe good judgment comes from examining the facts, understanding the incentives of every party, testing assumptions, and identifying the risks that matter.
Conviction should be the result of that process, not a substitute for it.
This is the standard we intend to bring to every engagement.
Not every transaction should happen. Not every financing structure is appropriate. And not every opportunity improves with greater complexity.
Our role is to distinguish between them.
Building Velvl Greene
We are building Velvl Greene around a particular way of thinking.
Be rigorous in analysis. Independent in judgment. Creative in structure. Disciplined in execution.
Above all, remain willing to look beyond the obvious without losing sight of first principles.
Dr. Greene spent his life exploring the boundaries of what was known while remaining grounded in what he believed.
That combination of curiosity and conviction is what his name represents to us.
It is a fitting foundation for the institution we intend to build.
